our wish list - big stuff, small stuff and lots in between
|
|
Due to popular demand, here is a mish-mash wish list to help the willing decide what they would like to do/give/buy/bring for the geckos. From big things all the way down to unexciting practical needs... any of the following would be gratefully and humbly received.
:: HOTTEST ON THE WISH LIST (cheaply available here at our local market!)
- Helmets (mostly larger one for teenagers for bike riding, a few smaller ones for the littlies when they need to go on a moto. In Cambodia its one style helmet for all, so don't search proper bicycle helmets here).
- Portable CD player (for activities)
- Laundry powder (for clothes)
- Shampoo (we use it by the buckets!)
- Dish washing liquid, sponges, cloths
- Soap
:: TO BRING WITH YOU
:: IF YOU ARE ALREADY HERE
These are the things we constantly need and are easy and inexpensive to get once you are here:
- Kids thongs / flip flops / croc copies
- Kids shorts
- Kramas (small checkered traditional sarongs)
- A4 paper (for photocopying)
- Hewitt Packard Colour Laser Jet 1600 colour printer cartridges. Any 3 colours + black
- Glue sticks
- Whiteboard markers
- Correction pens
- Khmer story books
- Medical gloves
- A4 laminating paper
- Paracetamol for children
- Baby Milk formula No.1 (HIV/AIDS prevention
- School backpacks or bags
- Bathroom cleaner
If you are feeling physical:
- landscaping, planting trees
:: TO SEND BY POST, COURIER OR FREIGHT
Not to sound ungrateful but... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING please. The last generous donation sent from overseas was on the docks for 8 months accompanied with hassles, wasted time and financial demand.
:: THINGS THAT ARE NOT SUCH A GOOD IDEA TO BRING OR SEND :-(
- Textas or felt tip markers (they only end up being used once)
- Stuffed toys (we have lots and they sadly get filthy dirty)
- Skimpy revealing clothes such as mini skirts, halter necks, low cut tops (Khmer style is shy and modest)
- Synthetic clothes (weather is too hot and sticky)
- Playing cards (too reminiscent of the gambling games that contributed to their families demise)
- Plastic toys (we believe one of the reasons Cambodian kids have such wonderful imaginations and playing skills is because they haven't been inundated with toys, so why change something when you are onto a good thing)
- Lollies, sweets and soft drinks (check out the dentist list and you will know why)
